City to host POPIA and PAIA awareness campaign
25 November 2022
On Wednesday, 30 November 2022, the City’s Access to Information Unit
will host a campaign at the Cape Town Civic Centre to promote awareness around
POPIA and PAIA legislation.
The City of Cape Town's Legal Services Department's Access to Information Unit will be promoting awareness around the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and the Public Access to Information Act (PAIA).
Those interested can attend as follows:
- On Wednesday, 30 November 2022
- from 08:30 until 14:00
- on the Concourse Level, Cape Town Civic Centre
The aim of the engagement is to inform members of the public about their rights in terms of the POPIA and PAIA legislative frameworks.
'As a public body, the City is obligated to give effect to the right to access information, in respect of records that are in the City's possession or under its control. In addition, as a responsible party in terms of POPIA, the City is obligated to give effect to the right to privacy as enshrined in the Constitution. The campaign will give the City the opportunity to make members of the public aware of their rights in terms of both Acts,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.
The Access to Information Unit will be available to answer any questions related to POPIA or PAIA legislation, the City's responsibilities under these acts and how it applies to you.
